PRS McCarty 594 10-Top Electric Guitar, Red Tiger

The McCarty 594 10-Top in Red Tiger channels decades of design evolution into a single-cut electric that straddles the line between tradition and precision manufacturing. Originally developed in collaboration with Ted McCarty, this model represents Paul Reed Smith’s ongoing effort to preserve the foundational aspects of early electric guitar design—scale length, bridge geometry, pickup placement—while refining everything else that tends to get overlooked. The result is a guitar that feels familiar to players like David Grissom or John Wesley, but performs under far more consistent tolerances than many of its vintage predecessors.

This particular 594 features a figured maple 10-Top, visually uniform with defined flame across the full width of the body. Mahogany is used for the back and neck, keeping to the tonal blueprint PRS uses across its McCarty line. The bound rosewood fingerboard has a 10" radius and is fitted with 22 frets, marked by PRS’s signature avian inlays. The Pattern Vintage neck carve adds more shoulder than typical profiles, which—paired with the slightly thicker body—provides a noticeable sense of heft without tipping into discomfort.

Under the hood, McCarty III humbuckers handle signal with a balanced output and extended harmonic detail. These pickups are designed using PRS’s recent advances in magnetic and coil tuning, giving them an articulate, controlled voice at both high and low gain settings. The layout includes two independent volume knobs, two push/pull tone controls for coil-tapping, and a 3-way toggle switch. The PRS two-piece bridge and Phase III tuners round out the build, offering solid mechanical reliability.

Capped in a high-gloss nitrocellulose Red Tiger finish and paired with a PRS hardshell case, this guitar delivers vintage-informed performance with the sort of engineering fluency only PRS brings to the table.
