Gibson Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue, Ultra Light Aged, Wide Tomato Burst
Who doesn't love a good tomato soup? We can tell you for certain that this Gibson Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue, Ultra Light Aged, Wide Tomato Burst hits the spot! While the '59 reissues may be the pinnacle guitar for a lot of players, we think the '60 Les Paul's are the underdog. Not only was 1960 the last production year for the original Les Paul's before being brought back into production in '68, but they featured a super comfortable '60s SlimTaper neck profile. There's a reason Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and Joe Walsh all played them.
In traditional Les Paul construction, the single-cutaway solidbody gets its iconic shape from a 1-piece lightweight mahogany body and 2-piece figured maple cap, affixed by hide glue. This R0 sings with mid-range, warmth, and snap. A 25.75-inch scale length mahogany neck is glued into the body with a long tenon neck joint and sports that signature '60s SlimTaper neck profile adored by so many. The neck is topped by a Indian rosewood fingerboard and is crowned with 22 historic medium-jumbo frets and is complimented by aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlay fret markers.
All the period correct hardware and electronics are present here too. Strings are loaded through the no-wire ABR-1 bridge, pass through the nylon nut, and are strung to pitch with Kluson single line tuning machines. The headstock sports the Gibson logo in Mother of Pearl and the silkscreen Les Paul model badge. Loaded in both the bridge and neck positions, Custombucker Alnico 3 humbucking pickups deliver authentic P.A.F. style charm, pure rock and roll bliss if you ask us. Period correct mounting rings, switcher washer, switch tip, and pickguard complete the look. Tone can be further explored with the 3-way switch, 2 volume, and 2 tone controls.
The entire R0 features Murphy Lab Ultra Light Ageing that delivers a vintage patina in both look and feel. You'll see some finish checking, aged hardware, and most importantly feel the difference. It is the closest thing to a real 1960 example. Complete with its COA, Custom Shop Switch Plate Medallion, and packed in a brown/pink Lifton reissue case, this R0 is ready to rock.
