Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-330 Reissue Hollowbody Electric Guitar, Vintage Burst
First introduced in 1959, the Gibson ES-330 quickly made a name for itself – right there alongside the famed '59 Les Paul. After a 8-year hiatus from the custom shop lineup, we are pleased to welcome back the Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-330 Reissue. Back in its Vintage Burst glory, this hollowbody can handle it all from americana, blues, country, and more.
The '59 330 reissue gets its double-cutaway shape from a maple/poplar/maple body. The fully hollow design offers a big, warm, and resonant sound right out of the case – perfect for acoustic play time. While there is no center block is in the body like a 335, the 330 can handle a decent amount of gain before feeding back. It's body is bound on both the top and back, and sports a black multi-ply pickguard, nickel hardware, and gold top hat control knobs.
To amplify its voice, a custom set of P-90 pickups are up to the task. The bridge position uses standard windings and an Alnico 3 magnet, while the neck position pickup is underwound with a Alnico 5. This single-coil duo offers warm cleans and mid-focused overdrive. The pickups are hand-wired to its CTS volume and tone potentiometers with paper-in-oil capacitors. The standard 3-way toggle switch is located right by the pickguard.
For its neck, a mahogany neck is carved to an authentic 1959 profile – a hand filling "C" shape. The neck is glued into the body in a traditional set-neck fashion with a long neck tenon joint. The neck is topped by a bound 12-inch radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and white dot inlays. Strings are loaded through the trapeze tailpiece, rest on the no-wire ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, and are strung to pitch with the Kluson Deluxe tuning machines. The openbook headstock displays the Gibson logo.
The fit and finish on the 330 is excellent. A VOS finish evokes the gently aged appearance of a vintage case queen example, offering tasteful hardware patina. The guitar is accompanied by a Lifton reissue case and case candies. Sometimes, you just need a good hollowbody by your side.
